How to read this credit card emi calculator

Look beyond the advertised interest rate. Fees and GST affect cash paid, while the effective annual cost measures the timing of those cash flows. Compare any cash-payment discount separately; it is not included here.

Worked example

At ₹12,000, 0% and 12 months, with a ₹120 processing fee and 18% GST on that fee, EMI is ₹1,000. Upfront charges are ₹141.60, so total outflow is ₹12,141.60 even though interest is zero.

Method and assumptions

EMI uses a reducing balance. GST on modeled monthly interest is added to each payment. The effective annual cost discounts those payments against the transaction amount less the upfront fee and fee GST.

Equal monthly installments in arrears at a fixed nominal annual rate divided by 12. GST is applied to interest and the upfront processing fee at the rate you enter. Effective annual cost solves the monthly cash flows including GST on interest and the upfront fee plus GST, then compounds the monthly yield over 12 months. It is not a lender’s regulatory APR quote. Merchant discounts, rewards, foregone cash discounts and payment-date variations are excluded. Totals use unrounded amounts; schedule displays round to rupees.
