How to read this epf calculator

Enter the salary base used for your contribution and the employer percentage actually credited to EPF. The employer’s total retirement contribution can include EPS, which is not an EPF balance. Salary changes and withdrawals are outside this projection.

Worked example

At ₹10,000 monthly salary, 5% employee plus 5% employer EPF credit is ₹1,000 a month. A hypothetical fixed 12% annual rate gives ₹12,660 after year one and ₹26,839 after year two.

Method and assumptions

A month’s contribution becomes eligible for interest from the next month. Eligible monthly interest accumulates and is credited, rounded, at year end. Contributions are assumed constant.

Starts with zero balance in April and a fixed monthly salary and fixed EPF contribution percentages. Enter only the employer share actually credited to EPF, excluding EPS; 3.67% is an illustration, not a universal payroll rule. Each monthly credit earns interest from the following month, with interest credited and rounded at financial year end. Salary growth, wage ceilings, pension benefits, withdrawals and tax are excluded. The rate is a scenario assumption. EPFO interest provisions, paragraph 60.
